GRAMMY Museum® exhibit: Ki Hoalu – Honoring the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Tradition
Mele Mei in LA is a new annual event that kicks off the Hawaii-based Mele Mei celebration. Mele Mei in LA is a live showcase of Hawaiian music with performances by renowned island musicians during the week leading up to the GRAMMY Awards® ceremony in Los Angeles. A special exhibit that celebrates the history and artists of Hawaiian slack key guitar, Ki Hoalu – Honoring the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Tradition, was unveiled at the GRAMMY Museum in February 2016 to launch the inaugural Mele Mei in LA event this year. This exhibit will be on public display at the Hawaii Convention Center's Center Concourse from September 28, 2016 through April 2017. Residents and visitors are invited to enjoy this exhibit honoring Hawaii's slack key tradition.
Kani Ka Pila Grille 8th Annual Talent Search
Calling all traditional and contemporary Hawaiian musicians!
The 8th annual Kani Ka Pila Grille Talent Search is underway and emerging island musicians are invited to be part of this year’s competition. The winning artist or group will receive a one-month paid contract to perform at Kani Ka Pila Grille during the Island Music Series and a personalized promotions and marketing plan consisting of a studio recording and electronic press kit from the Honolulu Community College’s Mike Curb MELE (The Music & Entertainment Learning Experience) Studios.
